Harry Potter Signature

In this tutorial, we’re going to be making a Harry Potter signature banner.



What we need:
This picture of a clock
This picture of Harry
This picture of Buckbeak


1. Open a new image at 450x200 pixels.

2. Open the picture of the clock as a new image, and desaturate the image by going to colours >> adjust >> hue/saturation/lightness. Lower the saturation to –100.



3. Copy the clock picture and paste it as a new layer onto your blank canvas. Place it so that the clock face takes up most of the right hand side.



4. Put this to one side and open up your picture of Buckbeak. This will need to be resized, I made it 297x200 pixels. Desaturate the picture by following the same process as in step two.

5. Get your freehand selector tool (lasso) and roughly go around the edge of Buckbeak’s body, as in the following picture:

6. Next, go to selections >> modify >> feather, and set the number of pixels to 25. Click OK. The marquee around Buckbeak should expand. Copy and paste Buckbeak as a new layer to the left of the clock tower.

7. Duplicate the layer by going to layers >> duplicate, and then set the blend mode of the duplicated layer to screen by going to layers >> properties, and selecting screen from the drop down menu.

8. Now onto the picture of Harry. Resize the image so that it’s 330x250 pixels, and desaturate it following the same process as above. Use the freehand selector tool, and go roughly around the edge of his body:

9. Feather this at 75 pixels and copy and paste it as a new layer into the left part of the image. Duplicate the layer and set the duplicated layer at screen, as before.

10. Create a new raster layer (layers >> new raster layer) and flood fill it with a blue/mauve colour (#6F70A9). Change the blend mode to soft light (layers >> properties). Merge all the layers (layers >> merge >> merge all), and add a 1 pixel border in black (image >> add borders).

11. And you’re done! A simple yet effective signature.

I got a little stuck on the 2nd bit with saturation as when i lowered it the clock image just went black!
Also i had a problem with flood fill. it just covered the whole image and made it unseeable. i tried with texture and this is how it turned out:

and get my border to be black i dunno why it's yellow lol

I used the techniques on different images....I like how it turned out except for I wish I'd had more patience with the featheryness around "Rachel Everett" (the girl). And the text and I have issues... XD
