| Our first read has been voted for and chosen as Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. | Quote: | Callum is a nought - a second-class citizen in a world run by the ruling Crosses...
Sephy is a Cross, the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the country...
In their world, noughts and Crosses simply don't mix. And as hostility turns to violence, can Callum and Sephy possibly find a way to be together? The are determined to try.
And then the bomb explodes...
Sephy and Callum have been best friends since childhood, and now they are older and they realise they want more from each other. But the harsh realities of lives lived in a segregated society are beginning to take their toll: Callum is a nought--a second-class citizen in a world dominated by the Crosses--and Sephy is a Cross, and the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the country. The barriers they would have to cross to be together at first seem little more than minor obstacles to the two idealistic teenagers, but soon those barriers threaten not only their friendship but their lives. |
Everyone is welcome to join in with this, where our aim is to read and discuss the book within the next month (before Deathly Hallows is released). Post here in this thread if you've got a hold of a copy of the book, and let the reading and discussion begin!

| Just an FYI for anyone trying to find a copy- the newer released books were re-titled Black & White...Amazon has all sorts of copies from used to new....it appears to be part of a trilogy. I had to order my copy because none of the bookstores had it...Barnes and Noble told me it was out of print...but I had no problem finding it on Amazon. _________________ When I'm 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, I'll be reading Harry Potter. | Yay I was going to read this book anyway...and my library has it! Only it's spelled Naughts and Crosses.
EDIT: Barnes and Noble has it as Naughts and Crosses as well...and as Black and White. _________________

| I have this book, I bought it a few years ago.
It's odd that the title spelling has been changed to Naughts. I wonder if that stays the same throughout the book?
I'm going to go open a couple of threads for the discussion now - I thought perhaps we'd have a "whilst reading discussion", so you can post thoughts of the book during the reading of it, and a "post discussion" thread, so we can discuss in more detail the entire book once we've finished. |
